Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On will lead a local government delegation to Hong Kong Thursday to attend a symposium on the central government’s Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) has announced.

During the one-day symposium, Chui will deliver a speech. Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the central government’s top think tank, will brief the participants on the plan.

The 50-member Macau government delegation will include some of the members of the Executive Council, local deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and local members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The Executive Council is the local government’s top advisory body.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac, Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office O Lam, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) Director Victor Chan Chi Ping, Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office Director Lei Ut Mui, and Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau Director Mi Jian will be among the local officials taking part in the symposium, according to the statement.

The statement pointed out that the local government has taken a number of measures to ensure that Macau’s policies are in line with the central government’s overall planning for the Greater Bay Area.

According to the statement, the measures include the organisation of a youth forum about opportunities created for young people by the Greater Bay Area, the constant updating of Macau’s initiatives for the Greater Bay Area and their inclusion in the special administrative region’s Five-Year Development Plan, and the creation of the Working Committee for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

The committee was set up by the local government in November last year. It held its first meeting late last month “in order to press ahead with the next phase of Macau’s preparations for the Greater Bay Area,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, according to the Hong Kong government’s official GBA website about tomorrow’s symposium (https://www.bayarea.gov.hk/en/outline/symposium.html), the event is co-organised by the local governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

According to the website, NDRC Vice Chairman Lin Nianxiu, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui and Chui will deliver speeches at the symposium.

Guo Lanfeng, director-general of the NDRC’s Department of Regional Economy, will give a briefing on the GBA Outline Development Plan.

The symposium will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Grand Ballroom of the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel. Journalists from the Greater Bay Area and beyond have been invited to attend the symposium, which will be broadcast live: http://webcast.info.gov.hk/revamp/eng/livecast.html
