Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng will pay a six-day working visit to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, and Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, from tomorrow.

The Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) announced that while in Chengdu, Ho will attend the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference on Friday.

Ho will meet with leading officials from the Pan-Pearl River Delta, and attend the Sichuan-Macao Cooperation Conference as well as the opening ceremony of the Macao Week in Sichuan • Chengdu roadshow, apart from visiting local projects.

Following his Chengdu visit, the chief executive will travel to Xi’an for the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games next Monday and take part in a ceremony with officials from Guangdong and Hong Kong to receive the flag of the National Games, as the three places will co-host the 15th National Games in 2025.

Macao sent a 154-strong delegation to Xi’an for the National Games, taking part in 17 events. While in Xi’an, Ho will meet with Shaanxi province officials to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong will accompany the chief executive on his visit to Chengdu. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U will join Ho on his visit to Xi’an.

During Ho’s absence until next Tuesday, Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon will be the acting chief executive.

Launched in 2004, the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference is a platform for regional cooperation between eight provinces, one autonomous region and the nation’s two special administrative regions (SARs) – collectively known as “9+2” – located in the PPRD: Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Hong Kong, and Macao, reported The Macau Post Daily.
