Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng met with senior officials of the Zhejiang provincial government in Hangzhou to exchange views on how to strengthen bilateral ties during a four-day visit to the mainland.

Ho visited Hangzhou after attending the opening ceremony of the 4th China International Import Expo in Shanghai last week.

In Hangzhou, Ho met Yuan Jiajun who heads both the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress

Ho noted that Macao and Zhejiang enjoy close relations and cooperation and told his hosts that he is looking forward to seizing joint development opportunities with Zhejiang and fostering reciprocal ties.

Ho said that Hangzhou’s digital economy, smart city development and social governance were good reference points for Macao’s own development drive. Hangzhou’s experience in those fields would enable Macao and Zhejiang to have even deeper and broader cooperation for mutually beneficial development, he added.

Ho also talked about Macao’s efforts in accelerating development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, saying that the city is welcoming this major opportunity for further progress in socio-economic development.

Ho also gave a briefing on Macao’s Covid-19 control and prevention work. He praised Zhejiang’s novel coronavirus control and prevention efforts, and the province’s latest achievements in socio-economic development.

Secretary Yuan said that Zhejiang had stepped up its development efforts, and was committed to introducing technological reforms in order to optimise public services and the digital economy.

Yuan said that Zhejiang and Macao have enjoyed close links for a long time. He underlined that the two sides see huge potential in economic and trade-related matters, and promotion of people-to-people exchanges. Yuan also said the two sides will strengthen cooperation and complement their respective advantages.

While in Hangzhou, Ho visited a public service centre, to get a better understanding of the city’s integrated platform for government services.

He also inspected a base for the Hangzhou City Brain system, to learn about the latest smart city development in Hangzhou. He also visited Hangzhou Urban Balcony, to get a better grasp of urban planning work in relation to enhancing people’s well-being; and Bin Fen Future Community in Binjiang district, to take a look at a new model for community services designed to benefit the public and provide them with greater convenience.

Ho was accompanied by Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon, and Chief-of-Office Hoi Lai Fong, The Macau Post Daily reported.
