The government said in a statement Tuesday evening that Leong Kam Chun has resigned as chief executive of TV and radio broadcaster TDM.
According to the statement from the Government Spokesperson Office, Leong had asked the government last Wednesday if he could resign from his post rather than renew his contract when it expires at the end of this month, a request that Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On respected and accepted.
The statement came just a few hours after Leong told reporters at a Chinese New Year lunch for the media hosted by the Legislative Assembly (AL) that he would be willing to continue working for TDM.
“If the government still commissions me, of course I’d be willing to continue [to work there],” Leong said, saying that he would be “thankful” for the trust the government has in him if the government decided to appoint him to continue heading the station which is owned, funded and overseen by the government.
The Macau Post Daily contacted Leong after the government issued the statement. He said that he had resigned because “time is up”.
Leong, an accountant by profession, said the broadcaster had taken a string of measures in the past three years to boost employees’ morale and produce new TV shows, which had increased its viewership.
Leong summed up that although members of TDM’s executive board have different ideas and viewpoints regarding its operation, his time at TDM had been good since he be-came the broadcaster’s chief executive in March 2011.
The government statement said that it would hold a press conference today on the new arrangements for TDM. (macaunews)
