Chief Executive (CE) Fernando Chui Sai On said Thursday he hopes that Macau will have a place one day to train medical professionals.

Chui visited the headquarters of the Macau Returned Overseas Chinese Association as part of his re-election campaign trail, where he spoke about his hope in a meeting with the association’s representatives.

He said that whether they are permanent residents or not, doctors working in Macau are trained elsewhere since Macau does not have an institution for training doctors. However, he expressed hope that this will change in the future.

“Medical personnel are required to train continuously and learn new techniques and technologies, so we really hope that we can establish a training place for medical professionals and an organisation devoted to medical research,” said Chui, acknowledging that there are very few medical studies about Macau while saying he hopes that the organisation will have a local focus.

Chui, 57, holds a University of Oklahoma master’s degree and doctorate in public health.(macaunews/macaupost)
