An unidentified woman was believed to have committed suicide by hanging herself in a cubicle in the women’s toilet at a McDonald’s outlet near the Barrier Gate border checkpoint on Tuesday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.
The Fire Services Bureau (CB) transferred the suspected suicide case, which happened at the fast-food chain’s outlet in Block 2 of the Sun Star Plaza residential estate in Rua dos Hortelãos, to the Judiciary Police for follow-up investigation at 1:50 pm on Tuesday.
A female staff member discovered that the woman had hung herself with a blue jacket on the hook of the cubicle door when inspecting the washroom on the eatery’s second floor. She told the restaurant manager about it who then called the emergency services, the statement said.
Firemen and paramedics rushed to the scene where they confirmed that the woman was dead, the statement said.
An initial examination of the body by PJ officers showed that the woman had no injuries that could have been caused by foul play, the statement said, adding that no suicide note was found at the scene.
No ID card was found on the woman estimated by the officers to have been around 60 years old, the statement said.
The Judiciary Police preliminarily classified the case as “discovery of a body”, the statement said.
An autopsy will be carried out in order to confirm the cause of death, the statement said.
