Signal No 3 was issued in the early hours of this morning as Typhoon Chaba edged steadily closer to Macao.
At 4 am, it was located about 530 kilometres south-southeast of Macao and heading toward the western coast of Guangdong.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said that since another low pressure area is expected to develop to the east of the Philippines, the intensity and track of Chaba remains uncertain.
Residents should expect strong winds, frequent showers and thunderstorms today and over the weekend, with the possibility of flooding.
If Chaba takes a more northward track towards Macao, there is a chance that the SMG will raise the No 8 signal later on today.
