The Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement on Monday that Macau recorded 29 cases of death by suicide during the first six months, a 9.4 per cent year-on-year decrease.
According to a previous SSM statement, 32 suicides were recorded in the first half of last year.
In the second quarter, 14 suicides were recorded, all of whom were local residents, comprising eight males and six females.
In the statement, the bureau urged residents to keep contact with and care about those around them, with the aim of avoiding suicides. The statement also urged residents to encourage those who have emotional issues to seek professional help.
According to the Macau Post Daily, the statement also noted that the bureau’s health centres in Praça do Tap Seac, Fai Chi Kei, Areia Preta district, Ilha Verde, and Ocean Gardens and Lago public housing estate in Taipa provide psychological health services.
