The Judiciary Police (PJ) reminded the public on Thursday to prepare for the typhoon season in a timely manner.
According to a PJ statement, PJ officers will continue to raise awareness of the government’s evacuation plan for storm surges in low-lying areas during a typhoon, such as by briefing residents on disaster prevention and emergency measures, meeting community representatives and testing communication equipment for emergency situations during a typhoon.
The statement underlined that the storm-surge awareness promotion campaign is ongoing, pointing out that PJ officers have also stayed in close contact with community representatives during the current COVID-19 threat.
According to the statement, the PJ officers have reminded residents and community representatives to keep their emergency kits at the ready and to familiarise themselves with possible evacuation routes in advance. The PJ officers also updated the community representatives in different districts of the city about the government’s storm-surge evacuation plan and tested the districts’ emergency communication equipment to ensure smooth communication during a typhoon.
The statement said that the Judiciary Police will continue to carry out their disaster prevention and risk mitigation awareness campaign through different channels and methods, with the aim of explaining the government’s storm-surge response measures to residents and enhancing public awareness of emergency measures in response to typhoons and other natural disasters, as well as protecting residents’ lives and property, the statement noted.
