The Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 will be issued between 10 pm tonight and 2 am on Wednesday, announced the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) in a statement this afternoon.
The “orange” storm surge warning will be raised at 8:30 pm tonight. Currently, the yellow storm surge warning is still in force.
Due to Typhoon Higos changing to a northerly path in the last few hours, the tropical cyclone “may cause more significant flooding to Macao”.
According to the SMG website, “there will be severe flooding in low-lying areas between 5 am and 12 pm tomorrow morning, and the highest flooding level is expected to be between 1 and 1.5 metres. The public [is] advised to take preventive measures against the wind and flooding ahead of time, and pay close attention to the latest weather news of SMG.”
SMG has also said that “the winds over the bridges are expected to be strong and gusty; drivers are advised to pay attention to traffic safety. Motorcyclists should travel between Macao Peninsula and Taipa Island through motorcycle lane on Sai Van Bridge.”
