The 10th Macau International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2017 MIECF) is scheduled to be held from Thursday to Sunday at the Venetian in Cotai.

Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) President Jackson Chang announced the annual eco-fair hosted by the local government during a press conference at the World Trade Centre Macau on Monday.

Achim Steiner, a former executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and now director of the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford, will be this year’s keynote speaker at the forum.

This year’s fair will be held under the theme of “Innovative Green Development for a Sustainable Future”, according to IPIM Executive Director Irene Lau Kuan Va, who also addressed the press conference.

Lau said over 50 environmental experts from nine countries will conduct discussions on green development at the forum, and over 450 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions will participate in this year’s exhibition.

A so-called “Showcase Area for Innovative Environmental Protection Technologies” and the Beijing Pavilion will debut at this year’s MIECF, according to Lau.

Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) Deputy Director Vong Man Hung, who also addressed the press conference, pointed out that every year the third day of the event is assigned as Green Public Day where members of the general public are welcome to visit the fair.

In the past nine years, over 4,000 business matching sessions were arranged and 241 cooperation projects were signed, with 77.6 percent of them implemented, according to Chang.

Chang said he hoped this year’s MIECF will make good use of Macau’s advantages to facilitate regional and international collaboration, and continue to create green business opportunities.
