A Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) activity entitled “Integrated Media Visit to Macao” invited 11 mainland news media, including People’s Daily Online, for in-depth coverage about Macao as a tourist destination, an MGTO statement said on Monday.

According to the statement, the media representatives arrived in Macao last Wednesday for a five-day visit. The statement said that journalists explored different landmarks such as A-Ma Temple, the Moorish Barracks, São Lourenço Church and Dom Pedro V Theatre.

The statement said that during the visit, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes briefed them about Macao’s Covid-19 pandemic prevention measures, the recovery progress in the wake of the pandemic, distinctive tourism products and promotional offers that tourists can receive while in the city.

According to the statement, the aim of the activity was for the mainland media to use their professional angles through multimedia tools such as photos, articles and videos to demonstrate the city’s “Covid-19 free image”.

The statement noted that since the resumption of the issuing of Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) travel permits for all mainlanders on September 23, the government has been promoting Macao’s “healthy” image by inviting a number of influencers and the media from the mainland. The statement added that MGTO hopes to convey the message that “Macao is a healthy city that welcomes mainland residents to visit without the mandatory 14-day quarantine” which is required for arrivals from elsewhere.
