Former anti-corruption chief and policy secretary for social affairs and culture Cheong U and veteran educator Lei Pui Lam top this year’s honours list, the government announced on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, U and Lei were awarded the Decoration of Honour – Gold Lotus, Macau’s second highest decoration. The highest decoration – Grand Lotus – was not awarded this time.
U is retired. Lei is one of Macau’s 12 deputies to the “National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing. He formerly headed the Macau Chinese Educators Association.
Legislator Kou Hoi In, who heads the Macau Chamber of Commerce (ACM), and Van Kuan Lok, a former school headmaster and community sports leader, were awarded the Decoration of Honour – Silver Lotus.
Several dozen other awardees, both individuals and entities, in a range of different categories include the Identification Services Bureau (Medal of Merit – Professional), Macau Government Tourism Office Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes (Medal of Merit-Tourism), the public University of Macau (Medal of Merit Education), the Macau General Association of Wushu (Medal of Merit – Sport), and Mario Ferreira Sin (Medal of Merit – Sport).
The honours will be awarded in a ceremony in the first half of next month.
