In an effort to assist the 97 Macau residents stuck in Hubei province, Inês Chan Lou, who heads the Licensing and Inspection Department of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), said on Thursday that they would be provided with psychological counselling and supplies.
Chan made the remarks during the daily press conference by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre at the Health Bureau (SSM). People in Hubei are currently supposed not to leave the province due to the central government’s ongoing effort to stop the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from spreading further. Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei, is the epicentre of the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to Chan, some of the Macau residents are in a remote area of Hubei, adding the local government estimates that it would take several days for them to receive any supplies. Chan also said the local residents were believed to have been away from Macau for some time and could not return to Macau for the time being. Therefore, she said, the government had invited the Macau University (UM) Psychological Counselling Centre to provide assistance.
Chan did not elaborate on what the supplies are and whether the counselling would be done over the phone or in person once the Macau resident have returned to the city.
