Commercial aircraft movements – take-offs and touch-downs – at the Macau International Airport dropped 94.2 per cent year-on-year to just 350 in June, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSCE) has announced.
According to a statement released by the bureau this week, air cargo in June totalled 2,774 tonnes, an 11.5 per cent decline year-on-year. Gross weight of inward cargo (305 tonnes) and transit cargo (29 tonnes) decreased 43.7 per cent and 92.4 per cent respectively, while outward cargo (2,440 tonnes) rose 10.5 per cent.
In the first half of the year, commercial aircraft movements fell 74.3 per cent to 9,161, while air cargo dropped 28.1 per cent to 13,215 tonnes.
Meanwhile, according to a recent statement by airport operator CAM, the airport recorded 1,836 passengers in June, a year-on-year decrease of 99.7 per cent.
Macao’s economy has been severely affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, its tourism, gaming, retail and media sectors in particular.
Macao’s airport doesn’t offer intercontinental passenger flights. Its scheduled flight routes cover East and Southeast Asia, with most destinations in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
