Due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, the 9th Macau Literature Festival originally scheduled for next month has been postponed, the organisers said in a statement on Thursday.
“Due to the nationwide anti-epidemic measures caused by the [novel] coronavirus, transportation and exchange activities in Macau and [mainland] China have been affected.
“In accordance with the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) government’s advice and anti-epidemic measures, ‘The Script Road’ – 9th Macau Literature Festival will be postponed,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the organisers “will closely monitor the development of the epidemic and work closely with the government and our sponsors in order to decide the exact date after the postponement and announce it in due course.”
The annual festival, founded by local Portuguese-language newspaper Ponto Final in 2012, has been sponsored by the local government and various private entities.
In response to the COVID-19 threat, the government and the private sector have postponed and cancelled a string of events scheduled for this year, such as the 2nd Art Macao.
