Filipino Loreto de Guia Mijares Jr. received a Prestige Honorific Title from Macau government during a ceremony for the Decorations, Medals And Certificates Of Merit held Friday.

The award was given for his courage,  during typhoon Hato in August 201 when he saved a elderly couple from drowning

“I cannot explain how I feel. This is the highest award that I have received for helping save the lives during the typhoon. It makes me feel really proud”, he said to Macau television (TDM).

Miajres was cheered loudly when receiving the prize.

“I would first of all like to thank the Macau government and the Filipinos for their support.”

Mijares’ wife also said that life was better for them after the typhoon incident. In fact, the government helped them process the visa for their child.

“We applied for a visa of our daughter together with us here because we are working both here and the Immigration automatically approved our application. That’s why we are very thankful to the Macau government. Thank you for appreciation for what my husband did”, she said.

Choi Lai Hang received the Golden Lotus award and the Silver Lotus medal was given to businessmen Lei Loi Tak and Vong Kok Seng.
