The number of visitors to Macao over Easter can be expected to remain above 60,000 a day, according to Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the head of the Macau Government Tourism Office.
She told media that more than 70,000 arrivals were welcomed on 1 April, adding that visitors were expected to push the territory-wide hotel occupancy rate to as much as 60 percent for the holiday period.
Gaming industry news outlet GGR Asia said its own survey of room availability for the Easter break found no accommodation available at 10 of the 19 five-star hotels at Macao’s resorts.

Properties that said they were full included the Grand Lisboa and Wynn Macau on the peninsula, Morpheus in Cotai, and the Banyan Tree and Ritz-Carlton, also in Cotai.
Tourist numbers will likely be given a boost by the free return bus or ferry tickets offered to visitors from Hong Kong staying at least one night. The promotion was recently extended until June. Foreigners arriving via Hong Kong have also become eligible for the giveaway.
Macao welcomed over 1.59 million visitors in February, of which more than 843,000 stayed overnight or longer. The great majority of visitors to the territory are from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In February, just 2.76 percent of visitors came from other places.
