Macao’s casino industry generated gross gaming revenue (GGR) of 18.6 billion patacas (US$2.31 billion) in July, a month-on-month increase of 5.1 percent – and 11.6 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials DICJ).
When compared to the 25.5 billion patacas (US$3.04 billion) registered in July 2019, the figure represents a post-Covid recovery of almost 76 percent.
July GGR marks a welcome improvement on June’s lacklustre performance; its $17.69 billion patacas (US$2.2 billion) was the lowest GGR figure recorded since November 2023.

Analysts have noted that June tends to be an annual low-point for the local gaming industry, as it follows May’s Labour Day holiday high.
Overall, GGR across the first seven months of the year grew by almost 37 percent year-on-year, with a total of 132.3 billion patacas (US$16.4 billion).
According to the government’s forecast, total GGR for 2024 is expected to reach 216 billion patacas (US$26.8 billion). More optimistic predictions have said that the overall haul could be as high as 239.9 billion patacas (US$29.8 billion).
