Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.97 percent year on year last month, a slight acceleration from the 2.88 percent growth in April, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement attributed last month’s increment to the higher cost of eating out, higher home rentals and higher parking meter rates, as well rising prices of petrol and women’s clothing and footwear.
The price indices of clothing & footwear, transport, and health went up by 6.68 percent, 6.07 percent and 4.90 percent respectively year on year.
The composite CPI in May increased 0.37 percent month to month. For the 12 months ended last month, the average composite CPI grew 1.96 percent from the previous period, with notable increases in the price indices of education (+4.99 percent) and health (+4.88 percent).
The average composite CPI for the first five months rose 2.67 percent year on year.
