Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest Marvel superhero movie from Disney, was the eighth biggest IMAX opening weekend of all time – netting a collective US$36.5 million from its global debut last month, according to a press release from IMAX Corporation.
The gory comedy, directed by Shawn Levy, stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Emma Corrin. It has a 79 percent approval rating on popular review-aggregator Rotten Tomatoes’ ‘tomatometer’ based on reviews from 335 critics.
Deadpool & Wolverine debuted in US theatres on 22 July, opening to US$19.1 million. Internationally, the movie opened to US$17.4 million across 21 international markets – including China, which contributed US$5 million of the total.

The movie has a Group D rating in Macao, meaning it’s prohibited for audiences aged under 18. Its R-rating in the US, meanwhile, means under-17s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when watching it.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018).
According to IMAX Corporation, the latest movie in the Deadpool series achieved several milestones for the company: it was both the biggest IMAX July opening ever and the biggest IMAX R-rated opening weekend ever.
It was also the biggest IMAX opening weekend of any movie since Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and the biggest IMAX opening weekend of a Marvel movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Deadpool & Wolverine was the fourth biggest IMAX Marvel opening of all time, the company said.
