Macao athletes delivered a strong showing yesterday, collecting 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals across Special Olympics boccia and table tennis events as the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympic Games entered their second day.
In Special Olympics boccia in Zhongshan, Ao Ieong In and Chan Sou Kuan won gold in the women’s 22 to 30 age group doubles Group A, while Cheong Nga Man and Wat Hang Mei earned bronze in the 12 to 21 age group doubles Group E.
At Special Olympics table tennis in Hong Kong, Ng Weng San claimed gold in the women’s singles 22 to 29 Group E, defeating a Guizhou opponent 3-0. Kuan Un Kuan took silver in the 8 to 11 Group A singles, with teammate Lam U Tong earning bronze. Ho Chi Iao added bronze in the 12 to 15 Group F singles, and Leong Ion Lam and Lao U Kin secured bronze in the men’s doubles 16 to 21 Group D.

Macao also opened the paralympic table tennis competition with a strong performance. Chong Kam Lon swept his TT4 men’s singles Group C opener 3-0 in Guangzhou, a result that delegation head Lei Chi Kin said reflected the benefits of recent Greater Bay Area joint training programmes. In the TT5 men’s singles, Cheong Lam San fell 0-3 to a Tianjin opponent.
In boccia, Ngai Tong Loi narrowly lost in overtime to Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Tung in the men’s BC1 individual round-robin. Tang U Kei defeated Guangdong’s Yuan Yichu 4-2 in the women’s BC1 event, while Ngan Sio Cheng suffered two losses in the BC2 category.
Macao wheelchair fencer Lao In I advanced from group stages with three wins at Hong Kong’s Ma On Shan Stadium but exited in the round of 16, finishing ninth after a spirited comeback attempt against Jiangsu’s Yang Jinting.
The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games run until 15 December, jointly hosted by Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong.
