Wushu athlete Sou Cho Man came third in the women’s changquan event at China’s Student (Youth) Games on Tuesday, adding a bronze medal to the two golds Macao’s team has already bagged.

The Macao Polytechnic University student achieved a score of 9.666, according to a statement from the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ).

Sou’s latest medal comes after she won silver at the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia last month, and achieved 5th place in her category at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September.

Those events were also in changquan, an exhibition form of wushu from northern China, but Sou also practises the sword-wielding sport of daoshu – which she will compete in at the Student (Youth) Games today.

Macao’s two other Games medalists are swimmer Lancy Chen, winner of the 50m breaststroke, and wushu athlete Wong Weng Ian, who won gold in the women’s qiang (spear) competition.

The inaugural Student (Youth) Games are currently taking place in Guangxi province, between the 5 to 15 November. Macao has sent a team of 174 to take part in 17 events.  Overall, the ten-day sports competition features more than 20,000 participants and 57 competitions that are being held in a host of venues across Guangxi.
