Local wushu athlete Li Yi is to receive a Silver Lotus in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Macao’s developing sports scene and reputation.

Li Yi was the SAR’s sole gold medalist in wushu at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, in September. She competed in changquan, a martial art hailing from northern China.

The government revealed its list of decorations, medals, and certificates of merit for 2023 on Saturday. The twenty-eight honourees, including Li, will receive their awards at a ceremony on 19 January.

Asian Games participants were well-represented in the honours list.

Silver medalists Kuok Kin Hang (sanda) and Cai Feilong (karate) will each receive a Medal of Merit (sports) along with the Macao’s men’s karate kata team.

Li Yi’s award, the Silver Lotus, is Macau’s third highest decoration, after the Grand Lotus and Golden Lotus, neither of which were awarded this year.
