Macao has picked up a silver medal at the Asian Games

Martial arts athlete Cai Feilong has won silver in the men’s 75-kilogram sanda finals, securing Macao’s fourth medal in this year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Sanda, also known as Chinese kickboxing, is a full-contact combat sport that has been utilised by China’s military.

Twenty-eight-year-old Cai Feilong fought his bout against Iran’s Yousef Sabriabibegloo, who won gold, on Thursday.

Macao’s first medal at the 19th Asian Games was a bronze, courtesy of Song Chi Kuan in the men’s changquan final last Saturday. Then Li Yi won gold in the women’s changquan tournament. Changquan is an exhibition sport based on the northern Chinese form of martial arts.

On Tuesday, Huang Junhua earned bronze in the men’s nanquan event – an exhibition style of martial arts from southern China.

The 19th Asian Games are scheduled to conclude on 8 October.
