Local karate-ka Kuok Kin Hang is bringing a silver medal home from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Thirty-year-old Kuok came second in individual karate, after being beaten in yesterday’s final by Japan’s Kazumasa Moto. The men scored 39.8 and 43.0 respectively.

In 2021, Kuok Kin Hang won Macao’s first-ever medal – a bronze – at the National Games, held that year in Xi’an.

Kuok’s silver is Macao’s fifth medal at this year’s Asian Games. So far, local athletes have bagged one gold, two silvers (including Kuok’s), and two bronzes. All have been in martial arts events.

Macao sent a sizable delegation of more than 180 athletes to the 2023 Asian Games, which are taking place until 8 October.

The Asian Games is a quadrennial multi-sport event first held in 1951, in New Delhi.
