Voting for the 21st iteration of TDM’s Best of the Pop competition has begun, giving local pop fans the opportunity to cast a maximum of three votes for any of the 51 nominated songs by local musicians that they like best.

According to a report by the TV broadcaster, the voting can be done online and will last until 7 July. Winners will be announced during an award ceremony scheduled at the Macao Cultural Centre on 19 July.

The competition is seen as an opportunity for local singers to gain greater publicity not just locally but in the wider Greater Bay Area (GBA).

“The market in the GBA is very big,” one performer told TDM. “It’s not just Macao. It includes the surrounding regions. So it is a good thing that they can listen to our songs.”

Local talent Ginnie was in agreement, pointing out that TDM’s coverage in the GBA can heighten Macao artists’ exposure, which “can generate more feedback and support.”

Cantonese, Mandarin and English songs have been nominated for the contest, including the slick “Can’t Live Without You” by Snakhoe and Winifai, as well as the beautifully sung ballad  “Tired of Running” by Benjamim Soares

A number of awards are up for grabs, with new prizes added this year such as the Best Internet Popularity and Marketing Award and the Best Positive Energy Award. The prize pool totals 200,000 patacas.

Some of the past winners from the contest include Germano Guilherme who won prizes during the 15th, 16th and 18th editions.
