The Huizhou-born rapper known as Skai Isyourgod (or 攬佬 to his Chinese fans) is headed to Macao next month for a performance on the 20th, then will return to the region on 5 October to perform in Hong Kong, according to tour dates he announced via social media.

According to the post, there was less than a year between Skai Isyourgod’s debut show in Beijing and a sold-out performance in the UK’s capital. It also described his music as  “serving as a medium to disseminate traditional Chinese culture across the world.”

No further details have been confirmed yet, but the shows are part of his world tour – spanning Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Several shows have already been sold out.

With over 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and even more on Chinese streaming platforms, the 27-year-old shot to fame earlier this year for his distinctive sound, described by many as “Lanlao-style Memphis.”

The rapper uses Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka in his songs, with lyrics sharing insights into Lingnan and Chinese culture – combined with his signature rapping style, Memphis rap. This is a subgenre of hip-hop from the US characterised by lo-fi, gritty production and heavy use of bass.

Skai Isyourgod has shared in an interview with state media that he sees the style as a “vessel” for his own cultural stories.

The song that went viral was “大展鴻圖(Blueprint Supreme)”, and his album “八方來財(Stacks from All Sides)” has had online views exceeding 10 billion, according to Global Times.
