The Shenzhen International Art Museum (深圳国际美术馆), which will be dedicated to exhibiting international fine art, is nearing completion in Guangming District’s Science City, having begun construction in September 2022.
Once open, the museum will join the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, Science Park, and Science City Sports Centre to form a new science and cultural landmark cluster in the Greater Bay Area.
Designed around the concept of “riding out the storm together,” the building takes the form of two “arks” with Eastern and Western aesthetics to symbolise both cultures, linked by a central hall.

The façade incorporates 13 curtain wall systems, using materials such as carbon fibre and photovoltaic technology.
A notable feature, the “Moon Gate,” employs a circular mesh installation to echo the name Guangming (literally “bright light”) and recreates the phases of the moon. Furthermore, a cable-supported glass curtain wall blurs the boundary between city and park, while metal louvres regulate light and create a shimmering effect.
With a total floor area of approximately 135,000 square metres, the museum will house 15 international-standard exhibition halls, a 12,000-square-metre collection repository, a 700-seat indoor theatre, an outdoor theatre, a 200-seat lecture hall, an art library, and 3,000 square metres of public education space.
