Former Suncity Group CEO Alvin Chau Cheok Wa has been formally charged with founding and heading a secret triad organisation by the Public Prosecutions Office, TDM Radio reported. 

Chau was arrested by the Judiciary Police on 27 November 2021 on suspicion of criminal association, illicit gambling exploitation and money laundering. 

If convicted Chau, who was once one of the city’s high-flying junket operators, could face eight to 15 years behind bars. He is currently detained in Colane prison.

Another 21 individuals suspected to be linked to this case have also been arrested under the same charges.
