The 2023 Greater Bay Area (GBA) International Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Summit took place in the conference hall of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) headquarters yesterday.
The aim of the event was to provide a platform for leaders and experts of various industries to discuss the newest developments and applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in China’s booming southern megalopolis.
Some of the key topics that were covered included smart manufacturing, generative AI and robotics in the health sector.
Among the 21 speakers attending was the Hong Kong government’s innovation and technology secretary, Sun Dong, who said in his opening remarks that the GBA has “seen rapid development in applying AI and robotics in the past years.”
Sun stressed the immense potential of the technology as well. “The market share of the AI industry will reach US$2 trillion by 2030 and China will make up nearly over US$600 billion of that,” he said.

He highlighted some of the technological initiatives that the Hong Kong government was planning to promote in the GBA, including the establishment of “a digital policy office next year” and scores of other projects “to promote digital government and the smart city.”
The Chairman of the HKPC, Sunny Tan, meanwhile emphasised the role of the council in fostering the utilisation of AI and robotics in the GBA, including the establishment of a robotics centre at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.
In total, there were 13 keynote speeches and panel discussions organised for the event. Topics ranged from intelligent manufacturing to human-robot interaction and use of AI in medical imaging.
