Macao’s Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) has launched its new “BNU Pay” digital payment solution.
The bank said that “BNU Pay”, for UnionPay cardholders, allows customers to pay with their smartphone not only in Macao but also in mainland China and overseas.“BNU Pay”, which is integrated with the BNU App, can also be used anywhere UnionPay QR code is accepted.
Customers using BNU App can now bank online and pay at merchants with just one app. UnionPay is the only interbank network in China that links all the automatic teller machines of all banks throughout the country.
UnionPay International also allows card acceptance in 180 countries and regions.
Mobile payments within Mainland China usually require customers to open a bank account in mainland China, even for Macao residents.
BNU is a bank from Portugal’s Caixa Geral de Depósitos. BNU and Bank of China are issuing banks in Macao.
