Hunting Season (“Temporada de Caza” in Spanish), a 2017 Argentine drama film directed by Natalia Garagiola, won the Best Film award of the 2nd International Film Festival & Awards Macau (IFFAM) Thursday.
The Spanish-language film was released on September 2 in Italy where it won the SIAE Audience Award of the 74th Venice International Film Festival.
Irish actress and singer Jessie Buckley won the Best Actress award for her role in the British film “Beast”.
Mainland Chinese actor Song Yang garnered the Best Actor award for his role in mainland China’s “Wrath of Silence” film.
A total of 10 films competed for the 9 awards.
The awards ceremony was staged at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).
Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng, widely seen as the film-fest’s prime mover, and Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director-cum-IFFAM Organising Committee President Helena de Senna Fernandes attended the ceremony that, according to the IFFAM statement, comprised about 800 guests.
According to IFFAM sources, the festival’s first-time artistic director Mike Goodridge will stay in his job for next year’s film-fest. Goodridge is a former editor of the London-based Screen International film magazine.
The sources also said that next year would possibly include a segment on films from Portuguese-speaking countries and put more emphasis on Asian films.
The festival, which began on December 8 and ended Thursday, was organised by the local government in conjunction with Suncity Group.
