Portuguese architect-turned-artist Catarina Cottinelli has been appointed the new Head of Delegation of the Orient Foundation (FO) in Macao, the Lisbon-headquartered foundation announced.

Cottinelli will assume her new role in April, replacing linguist Ana Paula Cleto, who has headed the local FO delegation since 2010.

According to the foundation, Cottinelli’s appointment is in line with the local FO delegation’s strategic objectives to continue the programmes of cultural, educational and social activities, as well as the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture in Macao, both through the foundation’s own initiatives and partnerships with local entities or subsidy grants, Lusa News Agency reported.

Cottinelli studied architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon, graduating in 1984.

In April 2018, she moved to Macao, where she has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Saint Joseph.

Speaking to TDM Radio Macau, Cottinelli said her new role as the local FO delegation’s head will be “a new personal and professional challenge. I take on the new role also with the aim of publicising and promoting the Orient Foundation’s assets, which deserve to be known and experienced by all”.
