After almost one week of a partial lock-down, Macao has ordered all non-essential businesses to remain shuttered through next Friday to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Macao. According to the Chief Executive Order No. 119/2022, the order will remain in force until 00:00 of 23 July (next Saturday).
Only companies deemed essential will be allowed to stay open. These include utility services, hospitals, pharmacies, taxis, supermarkets and wet markets.
All individuals must remain at home, except for reasons of necessary work and purchase of essential good or for other urgent reasons. People must also wear KN95 masks or similar masks of the same standard.
This comes after government officials have repeatedly reiterated their aim to reach Zero-Covid cases in Macao. Thirty-one new confirmed cases registered in the past day have brought Macao’s Covid-19 tally to a total of 1,706 cases as of midnight last night.
Among the new cases, 18 were found under management and control in Red Code Zones and medical observation hotels while the rest were detected in the community.
The number of new Covid-19 infections reported today remained relatively steady at 31 – the same number of new cases registered yesterday. As of 8 am today, 20,994 people are currently under follow up, including 3,226 close contacts, 11,361 individuals with overlapping itineraries, 1,227 secondary contacts, 254 general contacts and 776 accompanying persons, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced.
