Construction of a new open air public car park in Taipa, facing the Macau Jockey Club on Estrada Governador Albano de Oliveira, is expected to be finished before the end of the year, according to Macau Daily.

Both heavy and regular vehicles will be able to use the parking lot but other guidelines are currently being determined by local authorities, the report says.

The lack of parking facilities in Macao remains an ongoing issue, as vehicles on the road greatly outnumber available public spaces. As a result, illegal parking has become a problem.

As of June 2023, there were 62 paid public car parks in Macao, with 47 of them in the Macao peninsula, 8 in Coloane and just 7 in Taipa.

The new facility in Taipa has been built under the Public Parking Scheme, which allows for the construction of parking facilities on vacant land instead of only in multistorey buildings as before.

Prior to its conversion to public parking use, the Taipa site was a heavy vehicle park.
