Students from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) got the chance to contemplate their futures yesterday during a Career Day in Taipa.

More than 1,200 vacancies were on offer from 65 organisations from Macao, Hong Kong, Guangdong and Shanghai. Students took part in on-site interviews, learned about the latest trends in the industry and picked up tips from two alumni who spoke about their experiences as entrepreneurs.

Representatives from government departments and non-governmental organisations also took part in the event, the Macau Post Daily reported.

Macao’s graduates have performed well in the job market, according to the most recent Career Placement Survey.

It found that 73 per cent of 2021-2022 respondents with a master’s degree had secured full-time employment, earning a monthly salary of around 17,250 patacas.

Eighty-five per cent of graduates with a bachelor’s degree were either employed and earning about 15,600 patacas a month, had started their own business, or pursued higher education.

The survey found that among respondents who graduated with a bachelor’s degree and are working, 50 per cent are employed in tourism and hospitality. Seventeen per cent work in the service sector, 9 per cent in education, 7 per cent in finance and insurance, and 6 per cent in conferences and exhibitions.
