The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) has been ranked first in Macao, third in Asia and 23rd in the world, a jump of seven places year-on-year, in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

According to IFTM, its world position is “in terms of higher education institutions working in hospitality and leisure management”.

The rankings rate the top tertiary education institutions internationally by individual topic areas. The rankings by subject aim to assist prospective students in identifying leading higher education institutions in the world in their study field, with the hospitality and leisure management subject added in 2017.

The institute noted that QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the ranking’s publisher, assessed 2,182 institutions internationally, a 22 per cent increase, for the rankings for hospitality and leisure management this year, with an aggregate of 150 institutions receiving a place.

The rankings consider factors including academic reputation, and “a measurement of the productivity of each institution’s team of scholars and researchers and the impact of their work”, among others.

IFTM noted it had retained its position for six years as the “leading provider of education” in the rankings since its inception, and received the highest scores in the measurements in “academic reputation and citations per academic paper”.
