Chief Executive Electoral Management Committee President Song Man Lei said yesterday that the committee had picked five locations for polling stations for the election of the Chief Executive Election Commission members.
Song, one of the three Court of Final Appeal (TUI) judges, made the announcement while speaking to reporters after the committee held a regular meeting at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo.
Song said the locations under consideration include the Sir Robert Ho Tung Luso-Chinese Primary School, the Macau Forum and the Macau Polytechnic Institute’s Sports Pavilion. In addition, the committee plans to set up two polling stations at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion.
Song said the committee would look at the way the Legislative Assembly (AL) election was conducted last year when setting up the polling stations, such as curtaining off each polling booth to protect voters’ privacy since they may take them longer to choose their preferred candidates.
The judge also said since there will be a large number of candidates vying for a seat on the Chief Executive Election Commission, a larger size paper may be used for the ballots so that all of the names can be listed on one sheet.
The election will be held on June 29, in which 344 of the 400 members of the Chief Executive Election Commission will be selected by 825 associations that have the right to elect the representatives. The remaining 56 members will be chosen through negotiations among their respective groups such as religious organisations or are ex-officio members such as Macau’s 12 deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC).
The chief executive election is slated to be held later in the summer. Incumbent Fernando Chui Sai On is running for re-election. No rival candidate has so far come forward. (macaunews/macaupost)
