German Maro Engel, driving a Mercedes AMG GT3, won the Macau GT Cup, knocking out favourite Edoardo Mortara, driving an Audi R8 LMS, after what was considered an illegal start.
At the restart, with Mortara in 16th position due to a penalty, four cars were involved in a serious accident that stopped the race. Mortara eventually finished in fourth position.
The Swiss Raffaele Marcello, also in a Mercedes, was second and Alexandre Imperatori, in a Porshe GT 3R, from Hong Kong, third.
The second qualifying race takes place on Sunday afternoon.
