Macau’s tourist price index (TPI) rose 6.80 percent year-on-year in 2013, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Wednesday.
A DSEC statement attributed the growth to a “marked increase” in the price indices of clothing and footwear (+10.50 percent); accommodation (+9.68 percent); and food, alcoholic drinks and tobacco (+9.15 percent).
According to the statement, the 2009/2010-based TPI “reflects the price changes of goods and services purchased by visitors.”
In the fourth quarter of last year, the TPI rose 6.33 percent year-on-year, namely due to higher hotel room rates and the rising cost of eating out. The accommodation index was up 13.22 percent.
Quarter-to-quarter, the TPI increased 10.41 percent in the last quarter of 2013. “Soaring” hotel room rates during the mainland’s National Day “Golden Week
