The Macao Orchestra brought live classical music to nearly 3,000 students across December 2025 and January 2026, through a campus concert series held across 13 schools in the city, according to the Cultural Affairs Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials IC).
“Music for Future – Music in the Campus” is part of a government-backed effort to strengthen arts education in local classrooms, with performances staged at local kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.
Under the baton of resident conductor Tony Cheng-Te Yeh, the orchestra performed Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, a work written in 1936 to introduce children to orchestral instruments through storytelling and character-driven music.

The orchestra tailors each performance to students’ ages, adjusting both repertoire and ensemble size, with musicians explaining the music as they play and inviting interaction. The aim is to build basic musical literacy and listening skills, giving students a first-hand introduction to how an orchestra works and how classical music is constructed, the IC said.
Public and private schools involved included Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School, Pooi To Middle School, the International School of Macao, Colégio Diocesano de São José, Taipa Luso-Chinese School and Escola Tak Meng.
The programme – which just completed its second phase – has been “highly acclaimed” by teachers and students, the IC noted. All Macao schools are able to participate in “Music for Future – Music in the Campus,” by contacting the Macao Orchestra.
