Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines has launched a new route between the island’s second largest city, Taichung, and Macao, the Taipei Times reports. Until now, TigerAir was the only carrier flying direct between the two cities.
Starlux has also launched a new route from Taichung to the Vietnamese resort city of Da Nang and charter flights to Takamatsu, Japan. Previously, the airline flew to 23 destinations – including Macao – from Taipei only.
It now operates at least one flight per day from Taichung to Macao, and vice versa, with the flight taking about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

According to the company’s website, flights to Macao leave Taichung at 5:45 pm each day – with an additional flight on Monday mornings departing at 8:30 am.
Flights in the opposite direction leave Macao each day at 7:30 pm, with an extra flight on Mondays departing at 11:20 pm.
At Starlux’s Taichung inauguration ceremony, the city’s mayor Lu Shiow-yen said air traffic at Taichung airport had recovered to 90 percent of its pre-Covid-19 level.
