Visitors rise 3.8 pct to 1.68 million in September

Macau, China, 28 Oct – Macau’s total number of visitor arrivals in September rose 3.8 percent year-on-year to 1.68 million, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) announced Tuesday.

However, September’s number of visitor arrivals dropped 18.2 percent compared with the previous month, according to The Macau Post Daily.

The daily average of visitor arrivals stood at 56,300 in September.

Mainlanders accounted for 52 percent of all visitor arrivals in September. Year-on-year, the number of mainland visitor arrivals was up 16.1 percent. The number of mainlanders travelling to Macau under the individual visit scheme (IVS) stood at 354,443 – virtually unchanged from a year ago.

Hongkongers accounted for 29.2 percent of all arrivals. Their number was down 9.6 percent year-on-year.

The number of visitors from Japan (44,763) and Indonesia (30,098) rose 24.8 percent and 65.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. However, the number of visitors from Taiwan (96,382) and Malaysia (22,714) was down 6.4 percent and 29.1 percent, respectively.

Same-day visitors made up 50.4 percent of all visitor arrivals. Mainlanders accounted for 52.4 percent of all day-trippers.

In the first three quarters of this year, the number of visitor arrivals was down 8.4 percent year-on-year to 15.88 million.

In the first nine months of this year, 52.8 percent of all visitors arrived by land via Zhuhai, 39.9 percent arrived by sea from Hong Kong and Guangdong, and just 7.3 percent arrived by air.
