Macau’s visitors spent 13.1 billion patacas on non-gambling activities in the first quarter, up 35 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.

The figure was extrapolated from about 43,000 samples, according to a DSEC statement.

While overnight visitors spent 10.6 billion patacas, an increase of 39 percent from a year earlier, same-day visitors’ non-gaming expenditure rose 19 percent year-on-year to 2.5 billion patacas.

Visitors’ per-capita spending stood at 1,891 patacas in the first quarter, an increase of 25 percent from the same period last year.

Mainlanders once again proved to be the biggest spenders, at an average of 2,435 patacas per head.

In the first quarter, gamblers spent 267.8 billion patacas in local casinos.  (macaunews)
