Macau’s first casino emergency response drill by various government law enforcement agencies and other government bodies took place in the early hours of this morning at Galaxy Macau.

A total of 350 people took apart in the operation involving nine entities including the Public Security Police (PSP), the Judiciary Police (PJ) and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Galaxy Macau was the first of the city’s six local gaming operators to take part in a casino emergency response drill.

The hour-long exercise stimulated a scenario in which four robbers armed with knives attacked several people before leaving a suspected explosive device in the casino. The ‘culprits’ held a number of “hostages” in a gaming room.

According to The Macau Post Daily, casino security staff and police evacuated the premises and attended to the injured until the bomb squad arrived at the scene. Police mediators began to negotiate with the ‘suspects’ before the Special Operations Group rushed in to rescue the ‘hostages’.

The operation was carried out in the aftermath of deadly casino shooting incidents in Manila and Las Vegas last year.
