Macau, China, 27 Nov – The number of MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) events held in Macau stood at 310 in the third quarter of this year, decreasing by 11 percent over the previous quarter, according to figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), Xinhua reported on Friday.

Of the MICE events, 289 were meetings/conferences while 21 were exhibitions, with the total number of participants/attendees soaring 2.8 times from the second quarter to 217,241 in the following quarter.

MICE events’ average duration increased from 1.8 days in the previous quarter to two days in the third quarter, of which the average duration of exhibitions and meetings/conferences was 3.5 days and 1.9 days, respectively.

The majority of the MICE events focused on commerce, trade and management (122), tourism and culture (48) and education and training (40). Most of the events were corporate meetings (160) and association meetings (54).

In the first three quarters of 2009, a total of 1,040 MICE events were held in Macau, with an average duration of two days, attracting 428,528 participants/attendee, according to the DSEC figures quoted by Xinhua.
