The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said that although the refurbishment work has been officially inspected for the Grand Prix Museum reopening, the installation of the vehicles, equipment, interactive games and exhibits could still not take place due to entry restrictions because of COVID-19.
Senna Fernandes addressed the museum’s reopening at the MGTO headquarters on Monday when meeting with reporters about the third round of the “Macao Ready Go! Local Tours” campaign. The plan for the museum reopening this year was to coincide with the Macau Grand Prix that usually takes place in November.
“Now it’s about how we try to get the technicians and engineers to come to Macao to carry out the installations, and we do hope we can complete it this year but it’s something we have control of [as far as the novel coronavirus is concerned]. So we’re just doing what we can and have a few plans on hand for whatever the situation turns out to be,” she said.
Senna Fernandes also pointed out that MGTO has been preparing promotional campaigns for the Macau Grand Prix, with mainland China having the conditions to market it.
“We have campaigns for Hong Kong too but with the [COVID-19] situation now, promoting it would be a waste of time,” she pointed out.
