Macau’s visitor arrivals increased by 2 percent year-on-year to 2,394,195 in October 2013, according to figures released on Friday by the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Of all the arrivals in October, 53 percent spent only one day. The average length of stay of visitors held stable from a year earlier at 1.0 day, with overnight and same-day visitors staying two days and 0.2 day respectively, the figures indicated.

Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 5 percent year-on-year to 1,514,373, 63.2 percent of the total, of which 677,292 were traveling to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme.

Moreover, visitors from Taiwan (89,248) and  South Korea (38,632) increased by 3 percent and 12 percent, respectively, while those from Hong Kong (543,580) registered a 4 percent decrease.

Total visitor arrivals reached 24,305,018 in the first 10 months of 2013, up by 5 percent year-on-year, according to the DSEC.(macaunews)
