Macau, China, 21 Sep – Macau’s travel agencies generated total receipts of 4.74 billion patacas last year, up 33 percent year-on-year, according to official statistics.

Just 51.9 million patacas of the receipts – or one percent of the total – came from online business.

A Macau Statistics and Census Service statement attributed the strong revenue growth mainly to the “continuous increase” in inbound package tours and outbound travel by local residents.

At the end of last year, the city’s 177 travel agencies employed 3,034 people, an increase of six percent over 2009. The number of travel agencies rose by eight last year.

The sector’s total expenditure amounted to 4.55 billion patacas last year, up 34 percent year-on-year. Travel agencies’ purchase of air, ferry and railway tickets reached 1.59 billion patacas.

According to The Macau Post Daily today in 2010, travel agencies’ gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) leapt 55 percent year-on-year to 59.57 million. The sector’s gross value added (GVA) rose 10 year annually to 562 million patacas.(MacauNews/Tourism)
